Reflection on the Marking Period
Over this first marking period in art, I feel like I have gained skills and have become better in art. I think I have become better at shading when I drew my shoe drawing. I remember last year I wasn't sure how to shade properly, but now I feel like I have a better sense of how to do it. I feel like I can shade better going from lighter to darker. I remember last year in the beginning of the school year, we had to shade apples. I remember I didn't know how to add dimension, shine, or texture to my drawing. All of this can be done with different shading techniques and the right drawing pencil. This year I feel like I have a better idea of what I am doing and how to do different techniques, such as shading. I am ready to learn more skills in art this year.
Next President Collage
For the next president election, I decided to do my collage on civil rights. Civil rights are very important to all humans, they protect us. When I first started cutting out pictures out of magazines for my collage, I didn't really know what I was looking for. I had an idea on what I wanted to do, but I couldn't really make up my mind on what I would do. It was hard to decide on what I would use in my collage and what I wouldn't. I like using tissue paper in my collages. At first, I put different colors of tissue paper on top of my white paper when I first started so I could have a surface to work on. After I would glue pictures down on top of the tissue paper, I would put more tissue paper on top of that and add some paint in various spots. On my collage I painted a peace sign, a heart, and the word respect. I believe that all three of those things are the key for protecting civil rights. From magazines I cut out the words fight back, less spying more transparency, voice, your world, love, and never underestimate the power. I liked how my collage turned out in the end. When I was starting my collage, I didn't like it at all. But I realized from many times in art that a lot of times when you don't like a piece of art that you are working on at first, you really like it in the end.

Back In Art
I am back in school. This year I am taking my second year of creative arts class. I am excited for art class this year. I can't wait until we start doing different art projects during this year. I am most excited about doing ceramics this year. Last year I loved making ceramic cups, bowls, and plates. I love designing and glazing the ceramics. I also love painting too. When you paint you can pick any colors you want to choose and you can even mix colors together to get a new cool color. I decided to take art class again this year because I really loved it last year. Last year art was my favorite class to go to during the day. I hope this year in art class I am able to be a little more creative in the things that I do. I love art, and this will be a fun year.

Reflection Post
I had a great year in art class. Art was my favorite class of the day because I can be creative and have fun with the different art projects that I was working on. At the beginning of this year, I did not know different art techniques that I do now. I did not know much on how to sketch that well. Now I feel as though my sketching has gotten a lot better since the beginning of the year. The projects that I worked on this year was the ceramics place setting, the collage, my portrait, the metal panel, and pages for my book. My favorite thing I worked on this year was my ceramics place setting. I like how I got to pick the shape, size, designs, and colors on my bowl, cup, and plate. I also liked how I got to dedicate my place setting to someone special that I know. I had a great time in art this year, and I know I will have a great time next year too.

Working With Clay
A while ago we started working with clay. At first we started practicing on making bowls. Later we glazed them, which was fun to pick which color combination we wanted to do. Now we are making a bowl, a plate, and a cup. We have to design them in a way that can honor someone in who they are or what they love. So far I have made my bowl, and more than half way through with making my plate. On the inside of my bowl I put a big flower, and on the outside I put the waves in the ocean. I decided the person I was going to design in honor of them is my mom. She loves nature. So my bowl, plate, and cup are going to have flowers, leaves, and things that have to do with nature with on them. I really enjoy working with clay.
Finished Metal
This is my finished metal that I designed in art class. When I first started, I was actually going to do something that was somewhat different. About half way through making my metal pieces, I decided to change it a little. I think this metal design is a lot better than what I planning to do before. I cut out an oval copper piece of metal to be the main piece, which is the bottom. After, I cut out two big triangles on opposites sides, then I cut six small triangles along the two other sides. In the middle of the piece, there is a silver piece. It looks kind of like a horse shoe. Next to this are two medium sized triangles that are also silver. After the metal was heated, I loved how the color turned out! There is a lot of turquoise, dark blue, purple, pink, orange, and a little green and yellow. I had a great time working with metal!

Collage
This is my collage that I made. I really liked how it turned out. I was worried that I would not be able to think of different things to put in my collage or if it would look ok. I was able to put different pictures in my collage that have a lot of meaning to me. I don't think no one could understand fully what my collage means. I love how it turned out. I also really like the colors that I used in my collage. I think the colors made it complete.
Metal
Recently in art class, we started working with metal. We had to first come up with a few different designs that could possibly work. Then we would sketch them and cut them out. The picture on the left is what my design is that I am going to use. I have not gotten to far yet, but eventually I will finish. I am now sawing my metal, which is hard to do, but I enjoy it.
Self Portraits
These were my self portraits that I painted in art class. For my smaller self portrait of my face, I used a lot more blue then in my larger painting. For my skin on the smaller portrait I mixed a sky blue color with dark blue and added a few drops of white. For my lips and hair I painted with sky blue, dark blue, and a little black. When I finished my smaller portrait, I liked it, but I wanted a little less of a blue color when I did my final painting. My larger portrait is a lot different then my smaller portrait. I added a little more black in that painting. But I found out that a little bit of black goes a long way! I like how my larger painting is more mysterious looking than my smaller painting. Overall, I like the smaller portrait more. It is brighter and the colors are happier looking. I like my larger portrait a lot too, but I wish that I didn't add as much black to it.

Artist Research: Edgar Degas
The artist that I chose to do research on is Edgar Degas. Edgar Degas was born on July 19, 1834 and died Septemeber 27, 1917. Degas was a middle class man from Paris, France. Degas enjoyed painting copies of famous artists work such as da Vinci, Michelangelo, Ingres and Delacroix. He also enjoyed painting movements that humans make. He started paintings ballerinas, which has become his most famous work. I like this artist because I can relate to what he painted. When I was younger, I was a ballerina for many years and I enjoyed it alot. I like the images that I picked out because they are very graceful, the colors I think are pretty calming, I really like the texture of his paintings, I said before that I was a ballerina so I can relate to his paintings, and I think his paintings are really pretty. Something I find interesting about Edgar Degas is that he was the only impressionist to visit America.
